Geotechnical Investigation for the Expansion of the Phum Prek Water Supply System | Phnom Penh, Cambodia (12/2025–01/2026)

As clean water infrastructure expands to meet the growing demands of the capital, ensuring a stable foundation for treatment facilities, pumping stations, and heavy structural components is paramount.

Our team was trusted to deliver high-quality geotechnical data, safely navigating complex alluvial soil profiles near the riverbank within a tight winter timeline to provide total engineering precision.

Project Scope & Key Workloads

The investigation required a careful combination of land-based and specialized drilling setups to map the sub-surface conditions down to deep bedrock layers, with a maximum depth of up to 50 meters per borehole:

  • Onshore Drilling: Successfully executed deep boreholes across critical areas of the existing and expanded treatment plant footprint.

  • Nearshore/Water Investigation: Handled specialized drilling near water boundaries to support intake structures and heavy pipeline alignments.

Advanced Field Testing & Laboratory Methodology

To guarantee absolute data integrity for the international design teams, our engineers deployed a comprehensive program of testing and sampling:

  • Standard Penetration Testing (SPT): Conducted at strict regular intervals to determine the density, shear strength, and bearing capacity of the thick alluvial sand and silt layers.

  • Undisturbed Soil Sampling: Retrieved high-quality undisturbed samples from soft clay profiles, minimizing soil disturbance to ensure realistic settlement analysis.

  • Rock Coring: Successfully advanced into deep bedrock formations, recovering solid rock cores to evaluate compressive strength and rock mass quality.

  • Comprehensive Laboratory Testing: All soil and rock samples were transferred to our testing facility for rigorous physical and mechanical analysis , mapping out moisture content, grain size distribution, strength, and consolidation parameters.

Through this successful fast-track campaign in Phnom Penh, our company has once again demonstrated its capability to support vital, large-scale public utility and water infrastructure projects across the region with rock-solid data.
